Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started?
Add your first account and opening balance in Accounts, then record income, expenses or transfers in Transactions. Customise categories in Settings and follow results on Home and Statistics.
Which account types are supported?
Cash/bank and investment accounts, credit cards and loans are supported. Credit cards include statement/due dates; loans can track schedules, fees, interest and the payment account.
How do recurring items work?
In Settings > Recurring, add fixed or variable income/expenses and account transfers. Set frequency, time, business-day handling and an end date. Approve, skip or undo pending items.
How do I back up and restore?
In Settings > Backup & Restore, export a .vwbak file or explicitly create an iCloud Drive backup. Restore can replace current data, so create a fresh backup first. A separate importer supports legacy VaultWise JSON exports.
Where is my data stored?
Financial records are stored by default in the local SwiftData database. A limited summary is written to the App Group for widgets. A backup reaches your Apple iCloud Drive only when you choose iCloud backup.
Do live prices need internet?
Yes. Refreshing FX, crypto or metal prices sends selected symbols to price providers or the VaultWise price proxy. Account names, transaction history and balances are not part of those requests; core record keeping works offline.
How do PIN and Face ID work?
Enable them in Settings > PIN / Face ID. PIN credentials are protected in iOS Keychain and biometrics use Apple LocalAuthentication on-device. Support cannot view or recover your PIN.
A widget, notification or Live Activity is not updating.
Check Settings > Lock Screen Settings and allow VaultWise notifications, Live Activities and relevant background access in iOS Settings. Removing and re-adding a widget may refresh its cache. Low Power Mode can delay updates.
How does Pro work? Is it a subscription?
Pro is a one-time in-app purchase, not an auto-renewing subscription. Restore it with the same Apple account. Apple manages price, tax, refunds and regional purchase terms.
What happens if I delete the app?
Local app data is removed. You can restore a previously exported .vwbak or iCloud Drive backup. Back up before deletion or changing devices.
PDF or backup file?
PDF is a readable report and is not intended for full restoration. A .vwbak is the structured backup for accounts, transactions, categories, budgets, recurring data and settings.
What should I include in a bug report?
Include reproduction steps, expected result, iPhone model, iOS version and VaultWise version. Mask sensitive amounts. Do not send your PIN, full financial history or .vwbak unless specifically requested.
